Great points Julie. I too am following people who seem to think they must share every link they find on the Web. Naturally all of this becomes noise so I quickly tune them out. Later they seem surprised when they ask if I saw their link about ice cream eating lemurs and I say no. I miss such links for 2 reasons. 1) I'm not on Facebook all day. I usually only check it once or twice. The other is that I tend to ignore the people who post too much, esp. when they are usually posting the same social media article that everyone else Tweeted yesterday. In the end less is more if you want your posts to stand out.

The old adage that "the person who talks the least says the most" applies just as much in social media as it does in meat space.

Number 8 might be the most intimidating for the new blogger. WordPress and Blogger have enough familiarity (think first mover advantage) that one might look past a less popular selection. But speaking from personal experience, hosting your own blog or having a trusted provider (#8) assist you offers great flexibility.
